More than three decades have passed since Richard Nixon declared the war on drugs. Today, drug trafficking exceeds 7% of global trade. The film shows how the war is being waged by examining the situation in Colombia and the United States. The spearhead in the war on drugs is the U.S. police force, DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration). In Colombia, the U.S. fights this drug war by attacking the supply chain. Under a large offensive named Plan Colombia, coca and poppy growing areas are sprayed on a huge scale to eradicate the crops. However, many years of fumigation has not reduced the extent of the growing areas. In many remote sections of Colombia, the peasants have no viable alternatives to cultivating the coca plant. The coca plant is the only sustenance product there. In the United States, drug prohibition is enforced by imposing harsh prison terms for all drug law offenders. The fates of Richard Paey and Sharanda Jones show the social, political and personal implications of these measures. The War on Drugs is an analysis of a war that started almost 40 years ago and shows no signs of subsiding. [docalliance]

Thawra, Thawra hatta’l nasr („Revolution bis zum Sieg“) war Anfang des Jahres auf den ägyptischen Straßen Tausendfach zu hören. Die Forderung nach Mubaraks Abdankung und einem Aufräumen mit den führenden Köpfen des alten Regime hat die revolutionäre Bewegung geeint. Wie die Zukunft Ägyptens nun gestaltet werden soll, ist allerdings heftig umstritten. Während alte Eliten und diverse Interessensgruppen versuchen das Ende der Revolution auszurufen, fordern progressive Kräfte einen qualitativen Bruch mit der alten politischen Ordnung und weitreichende soziale Veränderungen.
Der Ausgang dieser Auseinandersetzungen und somit auch die Frage nach der Tragweite der ägyptischen Revolution ist offen. [AGMO]

In dieser Veranstaltung wollen abseits von revolutionsromantischer Hochstilisierung und medialer Konstruktionen wie der Facebook-Revolution ein differenziertes Bild des revolutionären Prozesses in Ägypten diskutieren.
Welche Voraussetzungen ermöglichten diesen Massenprotest? Wie sehen aktuelle Entwicklungen und Kräfteverhältnisse in Ägypten aus? Was können wir davon lernen und wie sind die unzähligen Widersprüchlichkeiten einer Gesellschaft im Umbruch zu verarbeiten? Letztendlich, wo steht die ägyptische Linke in diesem Prozess und welchen Herausforderungen muss sie sich dabei stellen?

AGMO – Arbeitsgruppe Mittlerer Osten
Diese Veranstaltung ist der erste Output einer Forschungsreise, welche Anfang Mai nach Äypten führte. In Kairo, Alexandria und in der Industriestadt Mahalla el-Kubra wurden zahlreiche Interviews geführt. AkteurInnen unterschiedlicher politischer Herkunft und Überzeugung wurden um ihre Einschätzung zu den Entwicklungen und Perspektiven in Ägypten befragt. Die Ergebnisse dieser Interviews wie auch die visuelle Dokumentation der Reise werden in den Vortrag einfließen.
